Hashshashin Assassins

Listen to "Hashshashin Assassins"

The Hashshashins (where we get our word "assassins") were active during the Abbasid Era of the Arab Period of Hegemony within the Islamic Period of Hegemony. The Hashshashins were Nizari Ismaili Shiite Muslims. They were led by Hassan-i-Sabah who, through the use of hashish, gave his recruits the impression that he was God and he wanted them to do his will. Until the coming of the Mongols under Hulagu Khan, the Hashshashins were very good at their job and they assassinated many high-profile people.

Though they are one of the most famous assassin groups, they are by no means the only ones. Others include Al Qaeda, the Mafia, the Black Hand, the IRA. The CIA, for example, is reported to have made 638 attempts to remove Castro from power.

the hashshashin assassin was more successful because of their prudence and intelligently convoluted and were big fans of researching their work before completing it.

Isn't it a legend that they took hashish that was made by the Europeans?

its not legend, its a fact they smoked hash or (hashish) its found on the tips of female hemp plants and that is why they are known to be fearless because they would assassinate their target under the drugs influence which is very potent. To show their bravery and fearlessness, the leader of the assassins would make some of the brothers plumet to their death while under the drugs influence, in front of political leaders as a sign of being fearless and power used mostly for intimidation.

Acctually, the drug mentioned was said to make the drug abusers lazy and listless. The hashshashin was said to mean 'follower of Hassan', their leader.

The only hashish references in conjunction with the Hashshashin or Assassins is from the texts of their enemies. No Islamic text from the time connects them with the use of the drug; since narcotics are forbidden for Muslims, a connection is unlikely. Instead, the name means followers of Hassan.
